Have you always wanted an excuse to stay downtown later than is contractually required by your employer? Does the thought of returning to the muted suburbs at 4 o’clock in the afternoon have you pallid with ennui?
Luckily, we can prescribe the cure for the suburban blahs. The energy, aesthetic and charm of Calgary’s very own Art Central is sure to inject colour and life into your veins. Established in 2004, Art Central is the definitive destination for Calgary’s visual arts community and their adoring public. Galleries, boutiques, special exhibitions and cafes all co-mingle in this vivid and vibrant space.
Spoil you dinner with a velvety cup of espresso and a buttery croissant at deVille Coffee. Pick up an eccentric token of affection for your lover at Nation Toys and Tees, or just come marvel at all of the gorgeous objects d’art that Art Central has on display.
For some after-hours fun, Art Central also offers adult art classes. Studio Todorovic, owned and operated by ACAD grad Ljubica Todorovic, offers oil and acrylic painting classes. You can also come down to the studio for Saturday Sessions. These open-studio sessions are great for working independently on your own unique project, or you can get tips and instruction from Ljubica herself. All are welcome, from beginner (mixing blue and yellow makes which colour?) to pro.
Art Central and Studio Todorovic are located on Centre Street and 7th Avenue SW. So the next time you feel as if you are trapped from the lifeless pastels of suburbia, come on down, pick up a brush, and paint your worries away.

Congrats, Michelle! The article makes me want to go there (and, as you know, I never go anywhere).
