You’re Out of Your Element, Donny!

In the beginning, the earth was a formless void. God saw that it was so, and he created a bunch of animals and puddles and some kind of dimmer switch. And then one day in the late 20th century, working through the Remus and Romulus of our generation (Joel and Ethan Coen), his divine hand guided the creation of The Greatest Movie Ever Made.

Yes friends, I am talking about The Big Lebowski. And in their divinely inspired genius, the good people at The Globe Cinema are running two midnight screenings of The Dude himself. Showing on Friday, July 24 at 11:59pm, and Saturday July 25 at 11:59pm, the experience of watching the film with a theatre full of Lebowski-philes is an experience not to be missed. All are welcome: hard-core fans and newbies, nihilists and pacifists alike. Whether you roll or do not roll on shabbos, there is a screening for you.

If you’ve never seen the 1998 cult film, this is a great venue in which to be introduced. Rabid fans of the film bring an energy and appreciation that frankly, you just can’t get by watching it alone in your darkened living room. The Big Lebowski, though not a runaway hit at the box office, has grown tremendously in popularity over the years since its release. Fans of the film, called Achievers, have created Lebowski Fest, an event which celebrates all things Dude. Now Calgary has created its own homage, and to miss this event would be very un-Dude.

Tickets run $6, and are sold first come, first serve. Be sure to check out Globecinema.com for details.
