September marks a New Year in the fashion world, which downtown Calgary plans to celebrate in fine form with the inaugural Stylocity (September 8-12). Taking a cue from past Downtown Calgary Fashion Weeks, Stylocity will feature runway shows, as well as food, art, accessories and entertainment.
Fresh on the runway
The festivities begin today with a fashion show that will transform part of Stephan Avenue into an 88-foot catwalk. Nikita the runner up of Canada’s Next Top Model will open the show strutting her stuff in this season’s hottest fashions, followed by her chic cohorts from i-Model Management. Get ready to preview fall 2009 trends and accessories from downtown retailers such as Persona, Kismet, Element, Arnold Churgin, Harry Rosen, and Riley & McCormick.
Continuing with the allure of the catwalk Banker’s Hall, The Core and Mode Models will showcase the latest and greatest every lunch hour on the main floor in Banker’s Hall. Be sure to get there early to grab the coveted front row seat!
Fashionable and FUNctional
Shape up your style with fitness experts from Gold’s Gym. Every day from 11 am to 1 pm, get Fashionable and Functional with the newest workouts and how to do them with style –of course!
Rush Hour Style
For those who prefer to stand out in a crowd by wearing something more original than an off the rack ensemble, you must check out the Rush Hour series. Starting today at 4 pm at Eau Claire Market get yourself a quick wardrobe boost by trying out Parcour with Style a new style activity geared for the fashion forward.
On Wednesday September 9 the downtown scene will get ambushed Guerrilla style by our local designers. Produced by Community Cloth, the same organization that throws unplanned fashion shows in our Plus 15s and parkades, will surprise us with a stylish parade that is guaranteed to stop traffic!
Little Luxuries
Check out the Noon show at the Bay for quick tips on how to jazz up your look with simple accessories from broaches to scarves. (September 9)
Foodie’s Delight
Stylocity is more than just looking good it’s also about eating well. Eau Claire Wine Market will host beer and wine tastings September 9 and 10 from 12:30 -5:30. As well some of our favourite downtown dining spots will show case their culinary delights with some added flair. Check out places like Barclay’s, Belgo, Buchannan’s, Chicago Chop House, Q-Haute, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and Teatro.
Closing Note
And like all stylish events Stylocity will end with a grand finale at Art Central, where fashion meets fine art on the runway. September 10 6-8 pm.
