This year marks the sixth anniversary of the Calgary International Blues Festival.  The festival runs from August 2-8 around the city, with main stage performances happening at Shaw Millennium Park, from August 5-8.

The first two days of the festival are free workshops, for blues guitar and blues saxophone.  They are being held at Music Centre Canada and Alliance Francaise.  For details check the Calgary Blues Association website.

On Wednesday, August 4, GUNN, a local blues band kicks off the festival’s musical performances at noon.  This is part of High Noon Music run by Calgary Recreation every Wednesday.

Main stage performances start at 5pm on August 5 and 6, with the last performer hitting the stage at 8pm.  Starting at 10:30pm on both these nights is Twilight Blues at the Red Fox Tavern in the Ramada Hotel (708 – 8th Avenue SW).  Quincy’s on Seventh is also hosting late night performances on Friday, starting at 10:30pm.

On August 7 and 8 the main stage performances start at noon, with the last performers getting on stage between 7:45pm and 8pm.  Twilight Blues are at Quincy’s and the Red Fox Tavern on Saturday – performances at both venues start at 10:30pm.  The Red Fox Tavern hosts the festival wrap-up party on Sunday at 10:30pm.  For a complete schedule, and list of performers check out the CBMA website.

There will be a beer garden and selection of food vendors at the festival grounds.  You will be able to purchase albums from the headlining artists at the Record Tent, or locally made items in the Arts Market.
