Just in time to get your imagination flowing for Halloween, the Glenbow Museum will be set up today, Friday, Sept. 21st, on the 200 West block (in front of the Bay) of Stephen Avenue Walk between 11:30am-2:00pm with special effects make-up artists from Bleeding Art Industries to do make-up demos on interested volunteers.
Pop by and get a taste of what they’ll be doing at their special Mask and SPFX Make-up Workshop on October 20th.
It all ties into one of their new exhibitions, Fairy Tales, Monsters and the Genetic Imagination, which runs from September 29, 2012 – January 2, 2013.
Many of the images are both disturbing, and yet, somehow endearing at the same time.
Described as a collection of works, “inspired by the fantastic stories and characters of myths, fairy tales and science fiction in which the boundaries between human and animal are blurred,” if the visuals currently on display outside the Glenbow are any indication, it will be a feast for the eyes and imagination.
The exhibit includes approximately 60 works in different mediums, from paintings to video. There are also a number of related programs and events for the whole family to enjoy, as well as some special weekday “Out For Lunch” programming at noon, for those wishing to make the most of their lunch hour.
While very excited to see this visually stunning display, one may need to invest in a nightlight afterward.
The Glenbow’s new hours are:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday – Thursday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Friday: 11:30am – 7:30pm (as of October 5, 2012)
Saturday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
