We just wanted to let you know that the LRT will not run in the downtown corridor on the Thanksgiving long weekend (Oct. 6 – 8). The tracks will be closed from the west end at the City Hall platforms to the south end of the Sunnyside Station.
The closure will start Saturday, Oct. 6 at about 2 a.m. and continue until trains begin service again on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 9. According to Calgary Transit, these closures are necessary to complete work to tie-in to the new West LRT line.
In order to better serve transit users, there will be bus service and shuttles:
- Regular bus service will run on 7th Avenue during this weekend shutdown
- Shuttle bus B201 will replace train service between City Hall and Sunnyside Stations
- Please visit Calgary Transit for shuttle schedules and more information on the shutdown
Additionally, there are a number of options for getting around downtown. We know parking can be a bit of a hassle, but visit out website to find out how you can park for as little as $2 downtown.
Car2Go is a new car sharing service that recently announced that Calgary is it’s fastest growing market. Members can park their Car2Go in any on-street parking stall for free, so a trip downtown is simple and inexpensive. Check the Car2Go website for full details on parking a Car2Go.
Many shops will be closed on holiday Monday including Banker’s Hall, however the CORE will be open from Noon to 5 P.M and The Bay will be open Noon to 6 P.M on Thanksgiving. After mall hours, the Devonian Gardens will be open 9am to 9pm.
