On Friday, January 22nd Steam Whistle Brewing, Canada’s leading independent craft brewery, is kicking off its UNSIGNED concert series with hometown heroes the HighKicks, Port Juvee & Dream Whip at The Palomino Smokehouse & Social Club (109 7th Ave SW, Calgary). Doors open at 8pm. Tickets are $5 at the door.

If you’re feeling the winter blues, HighKicks self-described party rock is sure to amp you up! Formed in 2011, this Calgary based duo brings to life all of rock’s best assets in a way that makes your arms raise for the most epic high-five known to Earth. Sharing the stage are the catchy and thought provoking quintet Port Juvee. Their REVENGE EP was produced by Justin Gerrish (who’s worked with Vampire Weekend and Weezer), and includes heart thumping rhythm sections and bright guitar leads. Last but not least are power punkers Dream Whip, a staple in Calgary’s indie scene, these dream weavers are known for their silky sound and dominating stage presence. Best part is, all tickets proceeds go to help The Unison Benevolent Fund, a non-profit charitable organization that provides counselling, emergency relief and benefit programs for those in the Canadian music community who face personal or professional challenges.

Steam Whistle UNSIGNED is an ongoing concert series that showcases Canada’s indie music talent, while also developing its future. Created by Steam Whistle Brewing, a brewery known for making only one beer -it’s Premium Pilsner, each edition of UNSIGNED features at least three Canadian artists with all of the ticket sales going back to the arts community

To date UNSIGNED has featured over 100 independent Canadian acts and raised over $75,000 for not-for-profits. Previous participating bands include: The Rural Alberta Advantage, Austra, The Darcys, Young Empires, Rich Aucoin, Shred Kelly, Scenic Route to Alaska, HSY, Dilly Dally, Dinosaur Bones, Lioness,Hooded Fang, Kidstreet and many more.
