If you love a good fresh oyster on the shell, I am here to let you in on a little seafood-lover insider tip. I have stumbled upon an upscale downtown locale that serves up one dollar fresh oysters. Yes, one dollar. I know you are trying to rack your brain - thinking of some dive-y seafood joint - but this place is far from a dive and the seafood freshness is the proof.
The Parkerhouse on 6th Avenue and 1st Street SW has Thursday Happy Hour featuring $1 Oysters from 4pm onwards. I managed to get down there one sunshine-y afternoon and pulled up a stool with my lovely friend Victoria for a glass of bubbly (not on special on Thursdays!) and some delightful oysters.
We started with a dozen of course, to test the waters. They were served up with the usual lemon wedge but also had an usual Carrot Chipotle Mignonette sauce on the side. Not one to mix BBQ with my oysters I waited until my third slurp to pair it with some of the Carrot Chipotle - an incredible flavour!
After countless more plates of oysters, another splash of bubbly and a reasonable bill I was convinced that the Parkerhouse would be my new Thursday night hang out.
