Family Day Long Weekend 2013

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

By Monday the Valentine’s flowers will be wilted, and the chocolates will have found their way to your thighs. Holidays chocolates come and go, but family is forever! Yes, Monday is family day in Alberta and children across the province will be bouncing off the walls begging to be entertained. Here are some ideas to help spend Family Day 2013 with your family.

Free skating at Olympic Plaza or Prince’s Island Park - Skating is fun, and healthy activity for the entire family. The City of Calgary offers free skating at Olympic Plaza at the lagoon at Prince’s Island park. Bring down your skates and make a day of it.

Afternoon Movie
- Calgary Reads is presenting a Family Day screening on the Academy Award winning short film “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore“. Tickets are only $5 but teddy bears get in for free!

When: February 18, 2022
Time: 1 pm-2:30 pm
Where: Globe Theatre, 617 8 Ave SW
Website: http://calgaryreads.com/news-and-events/
Tickets can be purchased here: http://www.eventbrite.ca/event/5310872964/eorg#

Lunch in the Calgary Tower
- See Calgary from a whole different angle and fill your stomachs at the same time! The revolving restaurant in the Calgary Tower, Sky 360, has a great kids menu and your elevation fee is included with your meal. Head on up and see the city like you’ve never seen it before!

Hot Chocolate - Family Day might be a bit chilly this year, so warm up with a mug of hot chocolate! All month is the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, vendors across Calgary will donate proceeds of hot chocolate sales to Meals on Wheels. Vendors are vying for the title of “Calgary’s Best Hot Chocolate”. Stop by Choklat or The Bean Stop and give them your vote.

A movie at the Market - Still looking for something to do? Check out Calgary’s other downtown movie theatre at Eau Claire market. There are still a number of shops in the market and after you can make your way up Barclay Parade (3rd st SW) up to Stephen Avenue to take in more shopping. Sadly, the weather won’t be as nice as in the picture but Eau Claire is an amazing place to take a walk year-round.
