Bright, shiny, new Season!

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

With a new Maestro, new Season and new seats (literally), we can expect a 2017-2018 Season that is “bright, shiny and new”.

April 5, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) proudly unveiled its 62nd performance Season. From enduring and timeless composers to the culture-shaping cinematic scores, we welcome back our established audience and new friends with a fresh performance selection to fit every taste.

New Maestro
The CPO welcomes a new era of leadership with Maestro Rune Bergmann stepping into the role as Music Director after a decade of leadership under the Maestro Roberto Minczuk.

“It’s always a challenge, but a pleasure to put together a program”, says Rune. “Music brings us together. I want people around the world to recognize and be aware of what is happening in Calgary.”

New Season
The Season will reflect Maestro Bergmann’s vision to showcase the CPO on the world stage with highlights boasting a guest performance by the iconic Yo-Yo Ma, a special Christmas concert with Jann Arden and a colourfully choreographed mosaic of five Canadian composers commissioned to honour Canada’s 150th Anniversary in the True North Festival.

The True North festival will be a celebration of Canadian artists and musicians including a convert by Juno award and countless Canadian music award-winning Corb Lund who is one of Canada’s most decorated and prolific Country Artists.

The CPO is filled with “sweet spots” where visitors can take in extraordinary classics or discover new talents. We’re invited to “come feel the music” and experience something that is epic, emotional and engaging for everyone.

Programs include Masterworks of the classics, Showcases by renowned guest artists, Discovery of new classical facets, Pops, Canada 150th celebration, Symphony Sundays for kids, Rush Hour, Bach at Knox Baroque Festival, and much more!
