PECKER | Movies at the GRAND

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

As part of the 14th Annual Exposure Photography Festival, Theatre Junction’s Movies at the GRAND is hosting a special screening on February 9th, 2018 of the John Waters classic film, Pecker, the story of a small-town shutterbug who becomes an overnight art darling.

“We love the mission of the Exposure Festival, which is to get people together to consider photography as a medium – its past, present and future. Pecker is a close-up story that nudges us to wonder about just that. It also explores the difference between passively recording images and actively creating them. And, hey, it’s a John Waters film, so it’s quirky and artful in its own right,” said Tonya Lailey, Business Development Manager at Theatre Junction.

Photography, in some form, is always at our fingertips, yet how often do we wonder about the role it plays in our lives?

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with Dona Schwartz, Executive Director of the Exposure Festival; Kurtis Lesick, Professor of Media Arts at ACAD; and Michael Drew, photographer and photojournalist.

Pecker is presented in partnership with the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF), and as always, will be a unique film screening experience. There will be an in-theatre bar featuring Village beer, Mountain Rhino doughnuts and other tasty snacks available for purchase.
