What’s Up in YYC

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

This week: July 8 to 14

Stampede is half way over and we are loving the pulse that it’s sending through the city! Grab your friends and family and head Downtown to enjoy the last 5 days of western activities before they’re over. Next up, post-Stampede cleanse. Don’t worry we’re in it together!

Enjoy the daily festivities at Fluor Rope Square on Stephen Avenue: At Fluor Rope Square, every day starts with a bacon pancake served hot off a chuckwagon or smokie.  We follow up with great daily FREE activities including live entertainment, square dancing, clowns, Old Time horse drawn rig rides and the First Nations Parade.

Daily First Nations Parade: Members of the five tribes of Treaty 7 from Southern Alberta, dressed in traditional regalia, proudly share their heritage and culture through dance, music and commentaries (weather permitting.)  Come join them in the Friendship Dance at Fluor Rope Square!

Ride in the Parade of Old Time Rigs: The departure point is on 9th Avenue and 1st Street SW (EnCana Place across from the Palliser Hotel). The tour leaves at 10:00 AM and takes approximately one hour. Rigs may be escorted by the Calgary Stampede Band Show Riders.

Flour Square Dancers: Kick up your heels and join the Fluor Square Dancers on Stephen Avenue Walk. Experience isn’t necessary.

Take a selfie with the “YAHOO” sign on Stephen Avenue.

The Roundup MusicFest: Rock ‘n’ Roll Icon, BILLY IDOL will bring his lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona to the Roundup MusicFest on July 10, 2019, along with ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’ members BLONDIE, Canadian punk-influenced rock band, HEADSTONES, and British Columbia rockers, DOUG AND THE SLUGS!

Badlands Stampede Music Festival: Come and celebrate the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth with Tim Hicks, Tiesto, DJ Pauly D, and more!

See BC/DC at the Wildhorse Saloon

The Kerby Centre Stampede Breakfast: it’s their annual breakfast so come on down and enjoy free pancakes and the works, as you donate and support the Kerby Centre.

HY’ Stampede Breakfast: Hy’s will be serving beef hash and eggs, along with fruit, juice, coffee or tea. The minimum donation required is $5.00 with ALL proceeds going to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Unit Society.

Free Slurpees at 7/11: 7/11 is giving away FREE slurpees on July 11 to celebrate 50 years of Slurpee fans in Canada!

Harry Rosen Music Series: Harry Rosen welcomes you ALL to pop by to the store and enjoy performances by some talented artists. We will be hosting a series of tiny store concerts that are absolutely FREE
