What’s Up in YYC

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

This week: August 12 to 18

This week we celebrate multiculturalism with festivals galore happening throughout #DowntownYYC!

Franco Festival Calgary: Franco Festival Calgary is a celebration many Francophone cultures, Africa to Europe, through Asia and the Americas, through music, dancing, cooking, crafts and other aspects that demonstrate the breadth and diversity of Canadian Heritage.

Carifest: Celebrate Caribbean culture in Calgary

Chinatown Street Festival: Come experience the Silk Road at this year’s CSF2019. Join us with the Calgary Flames team, cultural street food, live music, entertainment, and other multi-cultural offerings!

Expo Latino Festival: Amazing 3-day festival, Western Canada’s largest Latin festival that takes place each summer in August, at the Prince’s Island Park.

Paddle the Bow: it’s a Calgary staple and must be done at least once before the summer is over! Plus it’s a great way to view the city from a new perspective.

Shakespeare by the Bow – A Midsummer Night’s Dream: This summer, come together with the Calgary community to celebrate and support Alberta’s emerging artists in a gorgeous natural setting. One of Shakespeare’s most popular works, A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows four young lovers and a group of six amateur actors through the forest as they are influenced and manipulated by a band of forest-dwelling fairies. Join us in Prince’s Island Park for this thrilling chase of love, identity and confusion.

Walk the Pride: The rainbow and trans flag crosswalks are back and here to stay – have you checked them out yet?

#IAMDOWNTOWN Summer Stage: Join us this summer for some excellent music! Located on the 100 East block of Stephen Avenue Walk, outside the Telus Convention Centre, all performances are free and outdoors.
