What’s Up in YYC

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

This week: August 26 to September 1

It’s the last unofficial week of summer and it’s Pride Week so let’s eat, drink, and celebrate love and summer here in #DowntownYYC.

Calgary Pride: 11 days of LOVE is well underway! Check out the events calendar here!

Pride Parade: But the parade is not just a celebration. We come together and march to remember those who fought for where we are today, for those no longer with us, for those who still struggle to find acceptance from those around them, for everyone wishing they could march with us and are unable. We march as a call to action for our community to continue to grow and learn from our past struggles and failings, we march together. We’re here, we’re queer, we’re not going anywhere, get used to it!

Pride in the Park: After the parade, follow us into Prince’s Island Park where we guarantee there is something for everyone. Pride in the Park is Calgary Pride’s post-parade celebration and cultural festival where you can enjoy delicious food from our array of food trucks, experience live entertainment at our MAIN STAGE while sippin’ a cold one over in the VILLAGE BEER GARDEN, or maybe change it up with a burlesque show and more at our PALM BAY LOUNGE

Off the CUFF- Brittany Runs a Marathon: The Calgary Underground Film Festival and Elevation Pictures present an Off the CUFF Advance screening of BRITTANY RUNS A MARATHON, Winner of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.

Fiesta Filipino: True to its primary objective in promoting the Filipino arts, culture and traditions, the Fiesta Filipino YYC, during its two-day celebration, features exhibits, paintings, songs, sports and dances that showcased the richness of our cultural heritage.

BUMP Festival: The Beltline Urban Mural Project (BUMP) is a community-driven project to showcase art, promote Calgary, and transform the city into an inviting open air gallery. Now in its third year, BUMP has curated a diverse portfolio of local, national and international artists who have created eye-catching, inspiring and beautiful murals. This year’s BUMP Festival is on August 28th to 31st marking the addition of fifteen new murals with free guided mural tours, artist talks, live music and outdoor cinema you won’t want to miss.

Shake, Stir, & Strainbow: From August 18 to September 2, Calgarians are encouraged to try unique Pride-themed cocktails from various Victoria Park and Centre City venues. Partial proceeds from the sale of each drink will be going towards supporting Skipping Stone Foundation. See participating locations here!
