This week: October 28 to November 3

It’s the spookiest week of the year and the beginning of Movember – what a week! There’re so many exciting events happening in #DowntownYYC we don’t even know where to begin. Have fun Calgary!

Halloween Masquerade At The New Central Library: We’re taking over the New Central Library performance theatre for an unforgettable night of aerial performances, dance, burlesque, breakdance and circus arts by Cirque de la Nuit. The night will also feature music by Jon Delerious and Applebaum. Not only is this event unique–it’s for a great cause. You’ll be supporting Synergy and their youth programs–We’re talking award-winning anti-bullying programs for youth BY youth; a safe centre for ALL young members of the community; and experiential programming led by special guest facilitators (indigenous cultural workshops, equine therapy, reps from the Calgary Queer Arts Society…and SO MUCH MORE!).

Burger Fest: Chef Shawn and his team are firing up the grill for our third annual Burger Fest at The Guild! From October 18 to November 10, join us for lunch, dinner or weekend brunch and feast on one of our signature burger creations. From a French onion mushroom melt to an Atlantic salmon burger, served with your choice of soup, green salad or house-cut chips, we’ll be dishing up something for everyone!

Arts Commons Presents – Flamenco Legends: The band’s getting back together! Ten-time Latin Grammy winner Javier Limón has reassembled the original musicians that toured with legendary flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia during the last 10 years of his career. They reunite for a show that celebrates de Lucia’s immense skills, while forging a new path in the future of flamenco.

The Pioneer Holiday Market: With Thanksgiving upon us and Remembrance Day and the holidays just around the corner, The Pioneer on 8th is excited to announce its first ever holiday market!

Your Brain on Art: The Branch Out Neurological Foundation is hosting a fundraiser at Contemporary Calgary on Wednesday, October 30. Your Brain Art will be a night of “edutainment” featuring cocktails and appetizers, an art show and auction, music by the Instrumental Society of Calgary, and presentations from researchers working on treatments for neurological disorders. Funds raised support Branch Out’s mission to accelerate tech solutions and non-pharmaceutical approaches to neurological disorders.

Night of the Living Dead: Scorpio Theatre is kicking off its 20th anniversary season with a raucous production of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead at the Pumphouse Theatre. Fans of the O.G. zombie film should appreciate a special Scorpio twist to the plot: the play features multiple possible endings based on the pop culture legacy of the source material. Check this link for information on deals and special supplementary programming.

Halloween Movie Night: Join us for Death Becomes Her, an absolute classic of camp horror mayhem, featuring peak Streep and Hawn at her hawtest in a fight to the death… and beyond!

Calgary Ghost Tours: Join Calgary Ghost Tours for an evening of ghostly entertainment. Locals and visitors alike will be fascinated by these glimpses into the mischief, mayhem and murders of Calgary. All of their stories are enjoyed even by the sceptics amongst the group. Their tours include many local ghost stories and local history and are easily recognizable by the capes they are wearing and the lantern they carry, as groups are lead through the history and hauntings of Calgary.
