Caffe Artigiano

The first obstacle to experiencing the outstanding coffee at Caffe Artigiano’s flagship Calgary location is finding the place. Listed at 332 6th avenue SW, the front door actually faces out onto 3rd street, in between 5th and 6th avenue. Once you find your way inside, though, the warmly decorated red and tan café is one of the highlights of Calgary’s burgeoning coffee culture.

Each coffee is brewed individually using a clover press, so you never have to worry about getting the dregs of a huge carafe. This wasn’t as much of an issue with my order – a latte with an extra shot of espresso. You know you are at a real coffee joint when a latte is served properly, just barely more than warm. They still have some work to do on their food options, not that anyone is complaining about double fudge muffins.

Caffe Artigiano is based in Vancouver, where their locations number in double digits. In Calgary, there are a couple of locations, sure to be more in the future. The café is a welcome addition to Calgary, and provides a welcome alternative to the larger coffee chains that lack the ambiance and personality of Artigiano.
