10 Things To Do in Downtown Calgary During Stampede Week

1. Chuckwagon Breakfast

Start your Stampeding off right with a bacon pancake served hot off the Chuckwagons. The Calgary Stampede Downtown Attractions Committee will be hosting a breakfast in their Fluor Rope Square located in Olympic Plaza (228 8 Avenue SE) on Saturday, July 9th and Monday to Friday, July 11th to 16th each morning from 8:15 am to 10:30 am. There will be entertainment from 9:00 am to 10:00 am to put you in the Stampede spirit and free entertainment and activities throughout the day! 2. Core Entertainment

 The CORE is hosting a full calendar of events from July 8th to 17th on the 2nd level during lunch hours and on the weekends. There will be live performances from local artists, line dancing and even stop by to meet Dave Cowely and his horse Tucker! Full entertainment details at www.coreshopping.ca/events.

3. Stephen Avenue Summer Stage Entertainment

Join the sounds of the Calgary Stampede with a variety of entertainment all week to get your boots stompin’ and your heels clickin’ at the Stephen Avenue Summer stage! The Calgary Stampede Downtown Attractions Committee has a line up of artists you won’t want to miss. The stage will be located in front of Winners on Stephen Avenue (8 Avenue SW) and entertainment will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday to Saturday, July 11th to 16th.

4. Fluor Rope Square Entertainment

Check out local and international talent at Fluor Rope Square kicking off on Friday, July 8th after the Stampede parade. First to grace the stage is Nashville recording artist Drew Gregory! More Soundtown experiences will follow on Saturday, July 9th and Monday to Saturday, July 11th to 16th. Fluor Rope Square is located in Olympic Plaza (228 8 Avenue SE). 5. First Nations Parade

Celebrate traditional First Nations heritage as members of the five tribes of Treaty 7 from Southern Alberta, display their colourful culture with traditional regalia, dance and music.

The Parade is Saturday, July 9 & Monday to Saturday, July 11th to 16th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM starting at 9th Avenue at 1st Street SW.

6. Parade of Old Time Rigs

Come for a free horse-drawn old time rig ride while touring beautiful Downtown Calgary. Have a true western experience in one of these 15 old rigs which have been restored and are pulled by a team of beautiful horses.

Tickets will be distributed by volunteers on a first-come, first-served basis at the NE corner of Fluor Rope Square (Olympic Plaza, 228 8 Avenue SE), across from City Hall starting at 8:30 am with the tour beginning at 10:00 am. 7. Fluor Great Western Flapjack Flip

Competitors take their pancake breakfast to the next level with this “flipper” and “catcher” spectacle. Prizes are awarded to teams on their flapjack flipping elevation skills. Contestants are pre-selected from the audience and judges determine a daily winner. Don’t miss this opportunity to exhibit your skills Monday to Friday, July 11th to 15th at 10:05 am in Fluor Rope Square (Olympic Plaza, 228 8 Avenue SE). 8. Lammle’s World Champion Hat Stomp Competition

Practice your stompin’ skills in this competition where contestants destroy a cowboy hat in 30 seconds! Contestants are judged on three criteria, mash factor, originality and style! Daily prize is a certificate for a Cowboy Hat and the grand prize is a Championship Silver Buckle!

Competition will be Saturday, July 9th and Monday to Saturday, July 11th to 16th at 10:05 am in Fluor Rope Square located in Olympic Plaza (228 8 Avenue SE).

9. Fluor Square Dancers

Learn how to line dance with the Fluor Square Dancers! No experience, no problem. These experienced volunteers will be teaching Stampede style line dancing Saturday, July 9th and Monday to Saturday, July 11th to 16th between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm at the Stephen Avenue Summer Stage located in front of Winners (8 Avenue SW).

10. Say Hi to our Downtown Calgary Hosts and grab a Selfie

Look for our pink and orange Downtown Calgary information booth on Stephen Avenue between 1st and 2nd Street SW. Our Downtown Calgary Hosts will be there to help answer your questions and tell you about upcoming Downtown events. Look for them in red shirts and white cowboy hats! Don’t forget to get a selfie and #IAMDOWNTOWN!
