It’s got to be hard to get innovative when it comes to nachos. There really isn’t that much you can do. Chips, cheese, sour cream, salsa, some veggies – that’s about it. However, there’s one server at the Barley Mill in Eau Claire who had an idea that I’d never thought of – “hey, why don’t you get the sauces on the side so they don’t get soggy?” Admittedly, I had never even thought of this, but it really changed the whole nacho experience. Imagine getting to the very bottom of the nachos, and the chips are still crisp and stable enough for dipping? This was quite the experience. The Barley Mill scores huge marks for approach, even if the nachos were, well, standard nachos.
GetDown started this search for Nachos a couple of weeks ago, hoping to find an innovative and surprising approach to nachos. Well, so far we’ve come up to pretty empty. Though The Palomino does deserve honorable mention. Now we’re calling on you, the reader, for recommendations. Where should we go for a unique nacho experience?

The Riverstone Pub on Northmount Drive. They have the cheesiest nachos I’ve ever seen, and without even having to ask (and pay) for extra cheese! Definitely my favourite nachos in the city.
For the longest time it was my opinion that the Rose & Crown on 4th St had the best nachos. Then after moving out the burbs, I found a nacho plate beyond description. Fegus & Blix, Restaurant and Beer Market on 85st sw (West Springs) produced a plate of nachos that rendered my fiance and me speechless.
To start with, it’s served on a PLATTER, and not a dinner plate, secondly, it has two layer of nachos. So just when your done the first layer and feeling good about yourself, BAM, a whole second layer. Thirdly it’s piled a foot high with chips & cheese. I am almost ashamed to admit that we were not able to finish the whole plate.
