About

by Downtown Calgary

The Downtown Calgary Blog was created by the Calgary Downtown Association to inform Calgarians about all the exciting things that happen in their downtown, We have a team of contributors that share their experiences downtown with the rest of the city. It’s hard to keep up with everything going on in this 120-block area of the city, so please let us know if there’s something you’d like to see on the blog.

Art & Galleries – In addition to the numerous art galleries you can enjoy downtown, there is also public art to enjoy outside and in the +15 walkways.

Festivals & Fanfare – In the summer months you can find festivals almost every weekend downtown with favourites like the Calgary International Children’s Festival, the Calgary Folk Music Festival, the Chinatown Street Festival and new ones each year. Winters in Calgary are a challenge for event organizers, but we have great ones like the CPO’s Annual Classical Music Festival, High Performance Rodeo and Dine Out Calgary.

Food & Flavour – There are over 360 places to eat downtown (not including your desk, of course). During the summer you can enjoy the sunshine and the fresh air at on of the 65 patios downtown.

People & Places – This category is devoted to sharing the stories of the people that add life and the places that add character to our downtown.

Shopping & Style – Downtown has original stores for you to browse. Some of the concentrated shopping areas are: CORE TD Square/Holt Renfrew, Scotia Centre, Bankers Hall, Arts Central, Fashion Central, Stephen Avenue Walk and Chinatown.

Sounds & Vibrations – All year-round there are live music venues featuring: jazz, classical, rock, pop, dance and more. In the warmer months buskers and music festivals take over the downtown.

Stage & Screen – Our area includes the Cultural District (home to eight theatres) for a variety of theatre during the season. You can also find three movie theatres, two of which are independent.
