What to Wear: to an Outdoor Movie

by Kait Kucy · 0 comments

Forget the drive-in! Walk or bike-in to the Open Air August screenings at the historic Simmons Building in the East Village. Every Thursday for the entire month of August, there will be outdoor screenings of fantastic films including the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Flashdance! Could there be anything better than watching some campy classics next to the river and under the stars?

The events starts between 9:00 -10:00 PM on the RiverWalk Plaza, with the movie starting at 10:30 PM. Weather permitting. (The event scheduled for Aug 2nd has been postponed)

Movies:
August 2 - The Happy Movie
August 9  - Real Steel
August 16 - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
August 23 - Flashdance (1983)
August 30 - Best in Show

Here are some Outdoor Movie fashion must-haves to keep you cozy and looking cute at the film. Just don’t forget a lawn chair or picnic blanket!

Guys: Can’t go wrong with this Reservoir Dogs shirt from the Gap - a must-have for the film buffs. While there will be food trucks parked nearby it doesn’t hurt to pack some delicious popcorn along for the show. You almost can’t even watch a movie without popcorn! Lastly, a comfy shoe will keep your toes from getting cold as the evening progresses.

Girls: A cozy pullover like this navy one from Lacoste will keep you warm as the sun sets. This gorgeous blue leather backpack from Roots will stash away a blanket, sodas and even your popcorn. Again, with the comfy shoes. Choose something that is lightweight since you will be walking or biking home later.
