Back to Style Tips: Tailoring & Alterations

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

So you already know where all the hottest shops/boutiques are, you already know your personal style, and you already know how to dress to success, but did you know you still might be able to take it one step further towards that ‘perfect’ look?

As you may already know, different designers have a different idea of what constitutes a Medium.

For me personally, a medium shirt from the Bay is perfect in the neck and arm length, but the shirt billows around my waist and makes me look heavy.

Pants are a little easier, they have waist sizes. For me a 32 is almost always a good fit, except some brands only have one length, so I end up rolling up my pants.

While a nice cuff looks great, if a pair of pants is too long, even a cuff can’t save it from looking awkward.

Take a look at exhibit A, these jeans look pretty good, but the bunching at the bottom looks funny. Additionally, the jeans could drag on the ground causing them to get dirty and fray easily.

Now take a look at exhibit B, the jeans were hemmed by Flying Fingers Alterations in Fashion Central.

Cindy, the seamstress from Flying Fingers took a few inches off the bottom, and now they look amazing! I told her I like a big cuff, and she removed just enough to give the jeans a nice casual look.

Tailoring isn’t very expensive when you consider the cost of buying made-to-measure or bespoke clothing.

If you’re looking to get some alterations done, our would like a tailored suit you can try some of these downtown businesses.
