Despite adverse weather in previous seasons and bring located mere feet away from a busy street, Downtown Calgary’s Community Garden is returning for 2016!

On May 10th from 11am to 1pm volunteers from The Drop-In Centre will be out on Stephen Avenue (between 1st & 2nd street SW) giving out seeds and raising awareness about the garden. The Downtown Calgary Community Garden is a partnership between the Downtown Calgary and The Drop-In and Rehabilitation Centre (The DI), which sees volunteers from The DI helping to plant and care for the garden, and in turn The DI receives any food grown to be used in their kitchens to help feed their clients.

In addition to giving a helping hand to those in need, the Community Garden brings vitality and colour to 3rd street SW. Don’t be surprised to see volunteer gardeners working alongside children from local day cares as the children get their hands dirty learning about plants!

We encourage you to take some seeds back to your home or office and get them started, as we will be hosting a planting party on May 25th and we could use all the help we can get!
