Doors Open YYC is returning for its 5th year!

On September 24, many of Calgary’s most intriguing and beloved sites participate in Doors Open YYC. During this day, buildings in all quadrants of the city open their doors – free of charge – to the public and provide special revealing tours and behind-the-scenes experiences. Whether you’re a geek for history, architecture, the environment, art, sports, science or engineering, this is your chance at an insider’s view of Calgary’s vibrant and dynamic cityscape.

Two downtown businesses are partaking in this exciting event: SAIT Culinary Campus and Chapter 1 Daycare.

At SAIT Culinary Campus, they’re all about educated cuisine and would like you to experience a part of this for yourself. Join them for an informative cooking demonstration on Vegetable Pakora with Fresh Tamarind Chutneys. Theyll also have a fun cookie decorating station to occupy the little ones while you learn tips & tricks from their expert chef. Demos will occur on the hour, every hour, from 10 am to 4 pm. Registration is not required for this event although space is limited at the children’s cookie decorating station.

Chapter 1 Daycare has a full schedule set for the day:

  • Interactive Parent (10am - 10:50am): Infant gentle body movement session with dance instructor Heather Kniss. 19 months +
  • #toetaphero Challenge (11am – 11:50am AND 2pm – 2:50pm): Take the #toetaphero challenge on the “largest floor mat piano not used by a Hollywood star” with instructor Heather Kniss. For all ages. Win a prize.
  • Origami (1pm – 1:50pm AND 3pm – 3:50pm): Teach your child Origami – Japanese paper art to build concentration and hand dexterity. 4 years +. Win a prize.
  • Self Exploration Activities (10am – 4:00pm): Self Exploration Activities in the play area. 6 months to 5 years. Please note this is an unsupervised event so parent or guardian must be with child at all times. Refreshments donated by Cafe Blanca and Fiasco Gelato (DOYYC participant). Donations raised will go directly to BROWN BAGGING FOR CALGARY KIDS (DOYYC participant).
