Coppeneur Chocolate opens in downtown Calgary

A new store just opened on Stephen Avenue Walk and they sell chocolate! Coppeneur (#19, 105 8 Avenue SW) is in the space next to Avenue Diner that used to be home to Kismet and had a brief stint as a Saskatchewan Roughriders merch store during the 2009 Grey Cup in Calgary. What’s better than mac and cheese at Avenue Diner? Mac and cheese and a chocolate bar for later.

Coppeneur chocolate has been selling in stores in Calgary for a while, but now they’ve decided to open their own store. It’s the first North American location for this German-based micro-batch bean-to-bar chocolate maker - whew! The staff is friendly and can answer your questions about the chocolate and make recommendations if you have trouble making a choice.

Just before the holidays seems like the perfect time to open a chocolate store. With flavours like the Apple Calvados Bar, the Hot Chili and Black Pepper Bar and the Brittle Nougat Bar there’s something for everybody. I know it’ll be a challenge for me to walk by several times a day and not stop in for a new flavour.  There’s also a nice assortment of truffles and a wide range of single plantation and single origin bars. It sounds like Coppeneur is the place to stock up for a chocolate tasting night.

As the person in the office who stocks (or guards) the candy jar, I might just stop by Coppeneur one afternoon and see how long the chocolate lasts on my desk before it disappears.

Which flavour do you most want to try?
