Let’s Eat: Downtown Food

by Kait Kucy · 0 comments

I had been hearing some buzz about Downtown Food on the twitterverse lately so thought I might take a stroll down the avenue and pop in for a bite to eat. It seems like the SW end of Stephen Avenue is making some great strides in redevelopment in terms of restaurants and cafes.

While they don’t have a patio it was nice and breezy inside. My friend and I each ordered a glass of Prosecco ($11) and lemon water. Upon looking at their small but carefully created menu, our mouths were immediately watering.

We were both in the mood for light summery salads so I ordered the Broxburn Tomato Salad ($14) with roasted tomato vinaigrette, house cured bacon, parmesan and basil. The tomatoes were just beautiful with three different varietals and the cured bacon really added so much flavour to the dish.

My friend ordered the Summer Watermelon Salad with cucumber, feta, olive oil and lemon. First of all, the presentation of this dish is just gorgeous with thinly sliced cucumber wrapped around cubes of fresh watermelon.

The server offered up some delicious sounding flourless chocolate cake and strawberries with whipped cream for dessert but we were already feeling great after the perfect salads. We’ll definitely be back for more prosecco and desserts another time!

Downtown Food is located at 628 8 Ave SW.
