Where to play Pokémon GO in Downtown Calgary

by Downtown Calgary · 0 comments

The Pokémon GO craze has come to Calgary and Downtown Calgary is a hotbed of Poké-Action! With so many Pokéstops in the area, and tons of great places to eat, drink and shop near by, why wouldn’t you quest to Catch’Em All lead you downtown?

Downtown has a number of parks and green spaces that feature multiple Pokéstops and Gyms! Current hot spots include Olympic Plaza, Prince’s Island Park, Eau Claire Plaza and Harley Hotchkiss Gardens. These areas have multiple stops in close proximity so you can walk to hatch your eggs while visiting multiple stops. While it’s no guarantee, we’ve seen many of these stops setup with lures during peak times like lunch hour and after 5pm.

Downtown is home to more than 60 pieces of public art and many other points of interest. Stops are often located on art like the Jaume Plensa’s Wonderland sculpture at the BOW building, at historic churches like Knox United or on Stephen Avenue in places like the Galleria Trees.

Another hot-spot to hunt for Pokémon is the CORE Shopping Centre. The mall has a number of Pokéstops in addition to it’s already amazing shopping and dining options. Everything from Holt Renfrew to HMV, Hy’s Steakhouse to Taco Bell and everything in between.

A few things to note: a few Pokéstops may be a bit hard to find as they have changed! The stop on Stephen Avenue marked “Below Deck Tavern” is now part of the Unicorn Super Pub, and the ATB Financial stop on the corner of 8th avenue & 2nd street SW is no longer occupied by ATB. Also, we’ve noticed that the art on the on the downtown signal boxes have changed recently, so their in-game appearance is different than how they look in real life.

Additionally… As mentioned numerous times in the game, and in news reports: please be aware of your surroundings while playing the game, and be respectful of sensitive locations and private property. We don’t want to see anyone falling in to a construction pit, or walking in front of a moving car! Also, when playing the game on pathways, sidewalks and other shared spaces, please allow pedestrians and cyclists through, without blocking doorways or other high traffic areas
