Downtown for the Holidays

I’m a sucker for the holidays!  What can I say?

The lights, the decor, the carols, the feeling of togetherness.

Getting swept up in the simple joys of the season is a lovely feeling and there are many events coming up to get you in the festive mood. Here’s a sampling of what to expect.

If watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is one of your annual holiday traditions, you’ll want to catch Alberta Theatre Projects’ “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” which runs from November 22 - December 30 at the Martha Cohen Theatre.

See the Peanuts gang live, like you’ve never seen them before!

The Bay’s “Party Perfect” Beauty Event on November 22 will help you find your signature look for the season, and let you take advantage of exciting offers, demonstrations, gifts with purchase and draws.

Knox United Church will host The Festival Chorus, joined by The Festival String Orchestra and Celtic musicians on Irish harp, Irish pipes, flute, whistle, and fiddle for A Celtic Christmas’ on November 24.  This concert will feature “Celtic Mass for the Sea,” as well as beloved carols from the Celtic, Gaelic and Cornish traditions.

Join The Young Canadians and Santa for a journey of fun and laughter in ‘A Christmas Spectacular’ on November 25, at the Jack Singer.  Songs from Christmas past and present will bring you into the hustle and bustle of the North Pole as they prepare for their busiest time of the year.

Pop by The CORE - TD Square/Holt Renfrew, on November 28 for ‘Twas the Night and enjoy one-night-only deals and offers in every store.

Other highlights will include a unique performance featuring excerpts of The Nutcracker, from the world-renowned Alberta Ballet, FREE downtown parking, the lighting of the CORE’s spectacular 40-foot Christmas tree, and much more.

And that’s just November!  More details on upcoming events, holiday shopping hours, free concerts, and special holiday dining opportunities can be found here.

In December, get ready to have some serious fun with our Downtown Holiday Scavenger Hunt and play to win a Grand Prize Package valued at $2,400!

Between December 3-14, your mission (if you choose to accept it) is to complete each daily clue, and then bring them to our special holiday event at Devonian Gardens on December 16, where a winner for the Grand Prize Package will be drawn from all correct entries.

Participants will enjoy hourly prize draws, snacks, and lots of holiday cheer, plus the Calgary Parking Authority is pleased to provide FREE PARKING at City Centre Parkade (Gulf Canada Square) on Sunday, December 16 in support of the event. More details here.
