THE GIFT BAR IN CHINATOWN

by Kait Kucy · 0 comments

Chinatown is quickly becoming a hot spot for finding amazing and unique gifts all year long. However, shopping there has just got even better with the addition of The Gift Bar, a brand new shopping experience located right on Centre Street. Focusing on local designers as well as ethically made artisanal products from around the world, The Gift Bar is a one-stop-shop for this holiday gift giving season.

Located in an old heritage building, this warm and welcoming space has exposed-brick walls and plenty of great character. It is so great to see these spaces along Centre Street being used - especially since myself, along with others, thought they were permanently damaged after the flood in 2013. Walking into The Gift Bar, you will be find yourself slightly overwhelmed by the beautiful variety of textures and colours that fill the space. The owner, Barb Mackenzie, a textiles artist herself, has her own line of handmade capes that are perfect for layering on chilly days in Calgary.

The Gift Bar also carries a wide selection of eco-friendly, all-natural products including the Binchotan Charcoal collection. The collection features a variety of home and body products that has a main ingredient of charcoal, a natural detoxifying agent. Have you heard about their charcoal toothbrush that actually doesn’t require any toothpaste? It makes a great stocking stuffer.

Amongst the other products that they carry there is an array of great gifts to give the baby or child in your life. Everything from handmade child-sized pillows and quilts to tiny bathrobes. Shoppers can also choose from great gifts for the foodies on their list like beautiful wooden rolling pins from a local company or soft tea towels made from sustainable textiles.

During the month of December, The Gift Bar is donating 5% of their sales to the Early Childhood Development Program at Inn from the Cold.
