September Guest Post: Stephanie Fowler, Illustrator of Design by Streetlight
Well as anyone working downtown would know, we were hit pretty hard this last week with the first traces of fall. Plummeting temperatures left me very little choice but to dig into my wardrobe from last season and pair up a few of my old fall favourites with the billowy summer dresses that I have yet to tuck away for the year.
Lucky me, my office is right across from Stephen Avenue and I love nothing more than to stroll outside on the lunch hour , coffee in hand and indulge myself with some people watching to get me though the day. Up and coming for the season, here are a few things I’ve noticed and a few items I am craving for myself to get down and into fall chic.
Pleats please! So simple and ladylike. Pair a knee length skirt with your favourite summer pumps and a neutral button down cardigan for instant elegance that will get you noticed around the office. Looking to spice it up a little? Add an animal print belt and layer on a few chunky bangles – your arm party is complete and you are ready to rock.
Boots anyone? I am on the hunt for a pair that zip up in the back. Extra points for style if paired with slouchy knit socks – personally I lean more towards a motorcycle boot as opposed to the clean and classic riding boot.
Feeling a little tired with the cool weather? Slip into a pair of studded flats with your favourite slim black pants and a solid white tee. Light grey nails are also a big favourite for me this season. Keep them short and painted. Add on an animal print scarf and you have instant casual elegance.
Lastly, polka dots on anything and everything are sure to dazzle. Throw a long cardigan over your favourite summer dress, belt it and boot up. You are ready to get down and face the fall season in looks that are sure to snag attention, especially in the heart of Calgary’s downtown.
