10 Reasons to Love Lunch during The Big Taste

by Katie Murray · 0 comments

The Big Taste is in full swing in Downtown Calgary – this is your chance to enjoy some outstanding eats from some of our city’s best chefs. With no shortage of restaurants offering truly sensational special menus for a great fixed price ($15 - $35 for lunch) consider downtown your very own buffet.

Here are my top ten reasons that lunch downtown during the Big Taste is awesome:

1. Taking a lunch break is a greatly underrated pleasure. Any day that I can leave the office and enjoy a sit down lunch is a great day. Invite a colleague along for a friendly visit over some great food.

2. There are more than twenty restaurants downtown offering Big Taste lunch menus – no shortage of choice means something for everyone!

3. The Big Taste dessert at Home Tasting Room is in-house baked cookies and decadent hot chocolate. Mmm hot chocolate… the perfect thing to battle the current wintery weather we are having!

4. The crab cake lunch appetizer at RUSH is jam packed with REAL Dungeness crab. It’s awesome.

5. The warm, relaxing atmosphere at Mango Shiva will let you take a true break from whatever else is happening in your day – and their delicious lunch menu is only $15!

6. Studies show that a small amount of alcohol makes you more creative (no, really!). Not that we want you to be falling asleep at your desk, but a nicely paired glass of VQA wine from a BC vineyard might just spark you senses for an afternoon project! Just be sure you walk or cab to your afternoon destination.

7. Try some place you’ve always wanted to, for a smaller cost that usual – personally this was CHARCUT for me. I’ve been itching to visit for a while, but just haven’t made the investment yet. With TWO lunch menu options weighing it at either $15 or $25, this is a great opportunity to check ‘em out. Oh, and the bag of warm cookies for dessert didn’t hurt either.

8. An opportunity to check out the view – enjoy a $25 lunch menu at the Calgary Tower’s Sky 360 restaurant.Their Big Taste lunch menu has lots of options, as does the view from this revolving restaurant! Whether you want to spy on the neighbours or gaze longingly at the mountains you can do it all – your trip up the tower is included in the cost of your lunch. Be sure to make reservations for this awesome lunch destination.

9. Comfort food. Whether it is a big steaming bowl of mushroom soup at Blink, or smores bread pudding at The Exchange Lounge at the Marriott, you’ll be so satisfied you might even skip dinner. But why would you when the Big Taste is on?!

10. House-made-to-order Orange Maple Donuts from Downtownfood. Need I say more?

Don’t forget to share your lunch faire – and pictures are worth 1000 words! Join the movement on Twitter and Instagram using that hash tag #foodiesyyc!

The Big Taste runs only until march 10th – don’t miss this chance to enjoy inspired menus at top restaurants!
