5 SPOTS TO HELP KEEP YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

Happy New Year, downtown dwellers! Have your new year’s goals been set and your resolutions written in stone? If not, don’t worry - goals and resolutions are meant to evolve and change over the year as you evolve and change. However, there are a few things that nearly everyone resolves to do at the beginning of a new year (especially after an indulgent holiday season) and that is: eat well, get fit, look good, stress less and learn something new. I’ve sought out some great options for completing these goals right in downtown Calgary.

Eat Well: Working in the Core can have its nutritional challenges. With so much amazing and delicious food everywhere you look, sometimes it is hard to make the right choice for eating healthier in 2016.

Freshii is a great place to start if you typically aren’t a bagged lunch kind of person. Not only do they have extremely healthy options in their grab and go style eaterie, they also taste delicious and are quite filling. I previously reviewed some of their menu items and I ended up eating them for two meals - talk about value! Which is great if you are also trying to save money this year. They also offer office catering options that you might want to take advantage of if you are responsible for ordering food for your meetings and events.

Two locations: #240, 555 - 8th Avenue SW + 240-444 – 5th Avenue SW

Get Fit: Pretty much everyone makes this resolution every year. It is completely up to you how you achieve it. Whether you start running on your lunch hour or you want to hit the gym everyday, there are so many options available in downtown Calgary for you to achieve your fitness goals.

GoodLife Fitness is a great option for anyone working or living in the downtown core. Not only is it centrally located on Stephen Avenue but it is also in one of the most beautiful buildings on the street. What better way to achieve your fitness goals than to do it in absolute style?

Located: 140 8 Ave SW

Motivation to Get Fit: Okay, so maybe before you hit the gym you need a bit of motivation to even get you in there. Well-fitting, comfortable and stylish activewear is always a great motivating factor.

Lole Women is a great place to start. This Canadian company has lots of great styles to choose from so that you find something that makes you feel confident while you achieve your fitness goals.

Located at The CORE 317, 7th Avenue SW, Unit T0283

Find Inner Peace: We could all use a little less stress in our lives especially when there is so much that is out of our control. Taking time for yourself to relax, meditate, stretch or pamper is not necessarily a luxury but a necessity. Even one yoga, stretching or meditation class per week can make a dramatic improvement on your overall lifestyle.

Samadhi Yoga & Wellness is a great place to get started, as are many other great yoga studios in the downtown core. Their Yin Restorative class sounds like the perfect place to start rejuvenating your body and your mind.

Located at 485 8th Street SW

Learn Something New: Lastly, constantly educating your self in new ways is a great way to keep your mind open in 2016. There are so many places to look for new growth opportunities or to learn a new skill in downtown Calgary. Whether you are doing some professional development or wanting to do a fun class with a friend, your options are open.

SAIT Culinary Campus is an excellent place to gain experience in the kitchen. They have a wide variety of interesting (and delicious) classes for you to up your game in the culinary department.

Located at 226, 230 - 8 Ave SW.
