Imagine a world at peace. Imagine no fear of nuclear weapons because they no longer exist. Imagine an event that planted a seed of hope which grew into fruition.

Join the fifth annual ‘Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony’ taking place around the pool at Calgary’s Olympic Plaza on Stephen Avenue. Everybody is invited. Hundreds of beautiful lanterns will be released as people think of their own loved ones and the hundreds of thousands affected by the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Lanterns available for rent.

Music starts at 8:00 pm with the ceremony from 8:30 pm to 9:20 pm. Program includes Anthony Burbidge, an award winning musician, multicultural children’s choirs and drama, speakers recently honoured by the United Nations, greetings from mayors of cities around the world and more.

If you would like to participate in this ceremony, visit the Floating Lantern Peace Ceremony Facebook event for more information.

These 3 exhibitions show the tenderness and strength of personal and cultural history, featuring the artists Hannah Doerksen, Nicole Kelly Westman, Areum Kim, and sisters Brittney and Richelle Bear Hat.

The Window Galleries are located across from Max Bell Theatre in Arts Commons (205 8 Ave SE).
