Enough talk, here are the events!

Jail & Bail 2014 - Keep your eyes out on October 7th for the long arm of the law! Individuals will be arrested and brought to Stephen Avenue for sentencing and holding! Bail must be raised to earn the jailbird’s freedom, with all funds raised going towards the Canadian Cancer Society. Come to watch or donate to the worthy cause.

Fantasia - Taking selections from both of Disney’s masterpiece Fantasia films, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will perform along with scenes from each of the films including the famous ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ scene featuring Mickey Mouse and his troublesome brooms. This show will be great for the entire family, and is a great way to introduce classical music to young people.

TD Jazz Series - Another show at the Jack Singer in October will feature Powerhouse saxophone player and vocalist Maceo Parker. Look forward to a lot of fun, as dancing is highly encouraged!

Vampires Live at The Palomino - Things start to get spooky when rock group Vampires descend upon the Palomino Smokehouse on their Western Canadian tour with support from local bands Mayland and Burro.

Bow Valley College Open House - Learn more about Bow Valley College programs and services. Chat with faculty and staff and learn more about our career, upgrading, and ESL programs.

Libertine Distillery Dinner - Take a sip of some locally distilled spirits at the next installment of the Libertine Public House’s dinner series. Previous dinners have featured beer and wine, with this month’s dinner featuring Whiskey! Enjoy a 5 course meal paired expertly with spirits from Alberta’s FIRST craft distillery!

Wordfest - Running Oct 14 to 19th, this annual literary festival has more than 65 events in and around Downtown Calgary! With a motto of ‘Bringing Readers & Writers Together’ Wordfest is a unique festival that features readings, workshops and other educational events.

Halloween Howl - Lace up your shoes and string some garlic around your neck for this ‘All Hallow’s Eve’ themed run in Eau Claire.

Glenbow Museum - check out new exhibits running all this month including Made In Calgary: 2000s and Vanishing Ice as well as you have three opportunities (one, two, three) to participate in a Halloween themed Behind the Scenes Tour.

Classical Superstar - With a busy international touring schedule and glittering recording career, Joshua Bell is regarded as a true classical superstar. Joining the CPO for one special performance, Bell’s virtuosic style and charismatic stage presence promises to electrify the concert hall.

[email protected] - These weekly noon-hour concerts are FREE and are a great way to take in some culture!

There are two plays coming up that relate to war, and with Remembrance Day coming up in November we thought they’d be great to share as well! Alberta Theatre Projects is featuring ‘The Butcher‘ and Lunchbox Theatre presents ‘Jake’s Gift‘. Both plays are running until November, so you have tons of chances to catch one or both!

That’s it for now. Check out our Downtown Events Calendar for more events, and you can always email us at [email protected] and let us know about any events happening in Downtown Calgary.
